This schedule is subject to change.  Please be prepared to play, with your accompanist, one hour before your division is scheduled to begin (except for Adult division at 8 AM), and register at least one half hour prior to division.

ntry fees:  $15 per division, $5 per each twin contestant
2010 Amateur Contest Rules

All contestants must be members of CSOTFA District 6 or live within the District 6 boundaries.  All contestants must register 30 minutes before the posted start time for their division.  (District 6 includes the following California Counties: Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Humbolt, Trinity, Shasta, Lassen, Tehama and the Panhandle of Plumas County)

 

Contestants and Accompanists are responsible for being registered and available and ready to play at the appointed staging location 60 minutes before their competition time as well as to keep aware of any adjustments in the contest schedule.  If you and/or your accompanist are not ready to compete at your appointed time, you will be allowed to play at the end of the division.

 

Contest Divisions are as follows:

  PeeWees – 8 years and under

  JuniorJunior 1 – 9 & 10 yr olds

  JuniorJunior 2 – 11 & 12 yr olds

  Junior– 13-17 yr olds

  Adult – 18yrs and over

 Twin Fiddles – Two fiddlers playing in harmony.  (Contestants may register to play once only in the Twin Fiddle Division)

The rules of this Amateur Contest have it thusly: If you have placed in the top 5 in your age division at a certified contest or have won your age division at this contest, you are required to compete in either the next higher age division or the appropriate Open Division (with the exception of the Picking Divisions).

 

Each fiddle contestant will be required to play a Hoedown, a Waltz and a Tune of Choice in their respective divisions.  A maximum time limit of 4 minutes is set for each round.  Time starts after the announcement to the judges, when the contestant starts to play and the time keeper starts the timing clock.  Penalty points are accessed against the final round score at 2 points for every 10 seconds beginning at 4:01.   

 

Pickers will play a fast tune and a slow tune.  A time limit of 3 minutes is set.  Penalty points are accessed against the final round score at 2 points for every 10 seconds beginning at 3:01.

If you or your accompanist breaks a string, you may continue to play or decide to stop and then replay your entire performance at the end of the division.

 

Judging will be as follows:

Danceability and Rhythm – 25 points

Intonation – 25 points

Tone – 25 points

Difficulty – 25 points
Time – penalty points accessed against final score at 2 points for every 10 seconds over time.
